At the centre of maintenance planning is connected above- and below-ground inspection data providing clear evidence of actual asset condition starting from as-built.

A baseline trackbed condition measurement can confirm the as-built trackbed including thickness of ballast below sleepers, % sand ingress, and the ballast surface profile of the trackbed. Follow-up measurements to map change over time will allow maintenance interventions and handling of ballast resource to be effectively planned.

This philosophy is being followed by Etihad Rail DB who have commissioned RASC® surveys from Zetica Rail on an annual basis since the line was commissioned.
